The Arch of Constantine stands 21 meters high with a width of about 26 meters. arch and its iconography represents Constantine’s supreme power and the stability and peace his reign brought to Rome. The sculptures were partially restored and integrated into the arch to associate Constantine to the other great emperors of Rome. Located near the Colosseum and several other ancient historical monuments, the surface of the Arch of Constantine has detailed carvings and bas reliefs over much of its surface. Outside Rome, Constantine oversaw the construction of the imperial district of Constantinople and the Aula Palatina in Trier (present-day Germany). This triumphal arch in Rome marked the end of persecution of the followers of Christ and the beginning of the development of Christendom-a movement that would spread around the globe and have lasting repercussions that are still felt today. It also signaled Constantine’s conversion to Christianity, one of the pivotal events that forever changed the religious landscape of the world. The Arch of Constantine is a mix of decorative elements from different periods of late antiquity, mainly from the time of eminent emperors Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius. The arch celebrates the Emperor Constantine’s military victory of Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 312 AD. The history of the Arch of Constantine lies in the struggle between different factions who both claimed control of the Roman Empire. Situated between the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill, Constantine’s Arch is still a prominent architectural feature of Rome’s ancient city. Both the Arch of Constantine and the Arch of Titus in Rome have a dual military and religious significance. He said that he got a lot of use out of his combo kit, and so the Li-ion battery will benefit the tools he already owns. So what should Don do? My recommendation is to at least keep the new C3 Li-ion battery he just bought. If you can only own one drill and one saw, they should not be 12V models. I definitely do believe in and often recommend 12V tools, but I consider the drills and saws more as complementary tools and not as substitutes. But when you need extra power, 12V tools can fall short, depending on the job. 18V/19.2V/20V? Yes, 12V tools can handle many of the tasks that higher-voltage tools are used for. Eventually Craftsman might try to push Li-ion more strongly, but many consumers are bent on getting the most for their money for tools they will only use a handful of times a year, and don’t care that NiCd is not as good as Li-ion.ġ2V vs. But the designs and features are held back a bit in order to maintain consumer-friendly pricing.Īware that consumers look at price before all else, Craftsman probably won’t discontinue the NiCd batteries anytime soon. There’s nothing wrong with that, as the C3 tools provide reasonably good performance. Many advanced users buy into the C3 line as well, looking for maximum value. The C3 tools are mid-range designs meant for DIY usage. For a tool I planned to use a lot, the C3 drill just did not cut it. The Hitachi was smaller, lighter, more powerful, and more comfortable to hold and use, but it was also more expensive. While the tools performed alright and were a good value, I returned them two weeks later and went with a Hitachi model instead. The kit included a regular pistol-grip drill/driver and right angle drill/driver. Taking a look at the newest Sears/Craftsman tool catalog, Sears devotes more than two full pages towards promoting the C3 lineup.Ĭraftsman C3 offers no-frills DIY performance. A couple of years ago, I was looking to upgrade my cordless drill and purchased a Craftsman C3 combo. But with Craftsman boasting that the C3 lineup has 30+ tools, it is unlikely that they will eliminate any models without a strong incentive. Consumers are either unaware that many C3 tools are a bit dated, or they just don’t care as long as the price is right.ĭecreasing selection and availability may be dependent on individual stores, but it would make sense that add-ons that don’t sell well may be dropped at some point. Craftsman designed the C3 line to meet DIY needs at attractive prices, and because of this, the C3 line is guaranteed a long and steady future. Even most beginner DIYers that are not yet in-the-know are familiar with Craftsman. And with newer 12V compact tools capable of fulfilling most DIYer needs, would that have been a better investment?Ĭraftsman C3 is here to stay. Let’s face it, Craftsman is a brand that everyone recognizes. Sure, we understand how difficult it is to study kanji for that long. " Just an hour!" your friend could exclaim. If you only devote one hour every day to learning kanji, you can combine 一時間 (one hour) and だけ to say: To say that, you can combine 漢字 (kanji) and だけ, like: Let's say your weak point in Japanese is kanji, and you've been focusing solely on learning it recently. だけ is a particle that means "just" or "only." It follows another word or phrase and indicates the limit or extent of something. これだけ and それだけ for "Only This" or "That Much".Be aware that sometimes too much is just too much.だけ means "only" and indicates the limitation or extent of something. It was just too much information and didn't stick. I did briefly try to learn Onyomi, Kunyomi, meaning, and common compounds as I worked through new Kanji. Whatever it is that you find most important. Vocab gathering was also a separate study session, through Anki, iKnow, Memrise, Duolingo, or with a dictionary.ĭon't overwhelm yourself, it's OK to strip down whatever you're learning from to 1 thing you want to acquire. Through either Tae Kim's Guide to Japanese or Maggie Sensei. (for me it was iru/eru, ru, -u, and hiragana u verbs), transitive and intransitive was a separate study session. So I was just piecing kanji together with vocab after the fact.īut largely anything I specifically learned from WK, RTK, or KD was simply meanings only. By the time I was learning Kanji I had already started learning words in romaji. When I started I didn't particularly care if I knew all the details of a kanji when I saw it, I was just desperate to be able to RECOGNIZE it. They help get your head wrapped around the concept and to jumpstart you into being able to memorize them in some capacity. IMO Wanikani, RTK, and Kanji Damage are there as baby-steps into Kanji. Even if, vocabulary wise, I can read it several ways. and I don't know the full list of each Kanji's Onyomi and Kunyomi. Honestly I still don't know if a verb is ichidan or godan. With RTK and Kanji Damage I only learned the meaning of the kanji and moved on. but I used Kanji Damage and RTK, which had much the same principles.

You can annotate documents with underlining and strikethroughs in addition to highlighting. The software does a nice job of enabling collaboration. While you can’t fill and sign PDFs with Nitro Reader - this is, after all, a pared back version of Nitro's Pro PDF editor, with no OCR or the ability to insert, remove, and reorder pages) - it remains an excellent tool that will make everyday document-wrangling much easier. Touchscreen mode is especially nice for reading e-books, since you can flick the pages rather than scroll or click on a button. What makes this tool different is that it has a touchscreen mode that’s perfect if you’re working on a tablet. The Nitro PDF Reader is another powerful free PDF reader in the vein of Foxit Reader and Adobe Acrobat DC. Lacks advanced features found in Nitro Pro If you frequently need to print PDFs, Slim PDF is one of the fastest and most simple options available. It does a good job at this, though, leaving out the toolbars that can distract you from what you’re reading. On the other hand, if your needs are similarly simple, the free PDF reader might just be the solution for you.Īs a result, Slim PDF is truly just a PDF reader. While there is a menu option to convert a PDF to a Word document, doing this requires another software download. This application reads PDFs plain and simple, cut and dry. Nor will you find tools for signing, filling, commenting, or highlighting, let alone multiple reading modes. If you're looking for a PDF editor, you won't find it here. Slim PDF feather-light when it comes to features. You can search and rotate documents, but that’s about it.Īnd you have to go in knowing that. In our review, we called it "a sleek, minimalist PDF reader that only takes up a couple of megabytes on your hard drive." The downside to this small size is that Slim PDF is pretty basic. Plus, that means that it’s able to open and load your documents faster than most of its competitors. The software download is really small, so is the perfect choice if you’re limited by hard drive space. Slim PDF is the best free PDF reader if you’re looking for something incredibly lightweight. Note that with the software's latest update, Foxit seems to have removed its PDF virtual printer driver, meaning you can no longer use the software to create PDFs. There’s a Safe Reading mode that allows you to automatically disable Javascript embedded in downloaded PDFs. You can also merge or split PDFs by downloading free add-ons for the software.Īnother advantage to Foxit PDF Reader is that it offers security. Tools for editing, signing, highlighting, and commenting are fairly easy to access. That’s thanks to the fact that it uses the same ribbon-style menu as Microsoft Office. The software can be a little intimidating at first, but it’s relatively straightforward to navigate. The only thing that’s lacking in the free version is support for optical character recognition in scanned documents. Or, you can scan a document or image and turn it into a PDF using Foxit Reader. Integration with Microsoft Office allows you to easily turn documents you’re working on into PDFs. Read our full Adobe Acrobat Reader DC reviewįoxit PDF Reader is more than just a free PDF reader – you can also create PDFs from scratch using this software. If you can overlook this, it’s a great tool, but there are less obtrusive ones out there. Sadly, the adware side of things is pretty much everywhere: you get ‘try now’ buttons, you’re offered to use powerful tools but later are asked to pony up some cash in order to actually use them, there’s even a ‘7-day trial’ button. In our review, we reckoned that “Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is one of the best free PDF readers for anyone looking to view documents and manipulate them in some way.” It’s simple, easy to use, and comes with all the basic features you need to interact with PDF files. If it wasn’t for the latter, Acrobat Reader would be a decent addition to your software library. The second is to convince you to upgrade to the paid version of the software (which, you’ve guessed it, has many more features, including the ability to create and edit PDF files). The top PDF viewer is designed with two purposes in mind: the first is to enable you to read and interact with PDF files (including adding annotations and even signing a document). And IC cards like Suica generally only cover the base fare. And then, if you are riding any of Japan’s ~special~ trains, like the Shinkansen or other high-speed, limited express trains, there is a surcharge on top of the base fare. Here’s one of the tricky things about trains in Japan: There is the base fare, which is determined by how far you travel. Can I use my Suica card on the Shinkansen? They should have you sorted out in a jiffy. If you do find yourself somewhere that a Suica card doesn’t get you through the automatic ticket gate, simply make your way to the staffed gate, show them your card and say where you boarded the train.
